"Discover real peace and harmony within yourself, and naturally this will overflow to benefit others."
ABOUT THE CENTRE
Dhamma Pabhā (which means “radiance” or “glow of Dhamma”) is nestled in a forest in the slopes of Mt Dromedary, forty minutes by road from Hobart.
The tall trees and the bushland setting are far from the noises of civilisation, trains or traffic. The centre is in a very peaceful location where the sounds of nature and the native wildlife can be heard.
HISTORY
After twelve years of holding courses at hired campsites, the first course was held at Dhamma Pabhā in December 1994 using temporary facilities.

FACILITIES
Facilities at the centre include a warm and comfortable meditation hall, kitchen, office, dining rooms and individual student accommodation blocks, as well as server accommodation. The current building project is to extend the meditation hall to include a multi-language facility. Despite Tasmania’s isolation and small population, a dedicated group of Vipassana students are building a peaceful sanctuary of Dhamma in the forest.
CENTRE MANAGEMENT
The Vipassana Meditation Centre Tasmania is a non-profit charity and is managed by a board (known as the Trust), the members of which are experienced students appointed by the centre teacher for a term of up to two years. All who serve at the centre are volunteers who have experienced the benefits of practising Vipassana meditation and wish to help others to do so.
NON-CENTRE COURSES
From time to time ten day non-centre courses are held at locations outside of centres as they are arranged by local students of Vipassana in those areas. An alphabetical list of worldwide course locations is available as well as a graphical interface of course locations worldwide and in India and Nepal.
OTHER LANGUAGES
Information on Vipassana meditation courses is also available in the other languages. Click on the globe on the top right of the international Vipassana meditation page to select a language.
